Diabetes Medical Help
So when should you seek medical help if you don’t know if you have diabetes? Well, if you have any of the symptoms detailed on this site about diabetes, then I suggest you visit your doctor ASAP. Make sure that when you go to the doctor that you tell him or her that you are worried specifically about diabetes and want to get tested.
If you know you have diabetes and you are experience new symptoms like,
- You develop a small ulcer on your legs or feet. Any sore or ulcer that will not heal itself on a person with diabetes should be checked out straight away by a medical practitioner.
- If you are nauseated and are vomiting, yet you can keep your liquids down, see a doctor. Your doctor will adjust your medication levels. Constant vomiting and nausea could be a sign of diabetic ketoacidosis which can be a life threatening disease.
- Low fever of less then 101.5°F. Fever is usually a sign of infection and people with diabetes are more prone to infection then people without diabetes. Infections in patients with diabetes can be more serious then those without diabetes. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any pain as this may help pin point the exact location of your infection.
- If you are experiencing any of the general symptoms of untreated diabetes, go to your doctor as soon as you can. This may be a problem with your medication levels.
If you have emergency symptoms like altered mental state, forgetfulnes or just very strange behaviour, go to the hospital straight away. If the person with diabetes is awake, get them to drink some fruit juice as this has sugar in it. Do not give them lollies as they can get stuck in their throat.
Also, if you know you have diabetes and you have severe chest pain, this can be very serious as people with diabetes are more prone to having heart attacks and have heart disease.
