I’m wondering because I have a cat that is overweight, and we think she may be ****** on the floor instead of the litterbox.

A urine test can detect sugar in the urine. take a sample in to the vet or they can draw a blood sample and check for glucose that way. Overweight cats are more prone to diabetes, but they can also have urinary tract infections or be too lazy to get over the edge of the litterbox.

Cats can have it and the symptoms are weight loss, extreme thirst, loss of appetite and lethargy. But only a vet can test blood sugar and tell for sure. If your cat has it, then it will probably need insulin injections.
Peeing on the floor can also be a symptom of a urinary tract infection, which a vet can also check for and can be cleared up in most cases with antibiotics. That would be my first suspicion. Both situations require a vet though.

Cats can get diabetes, but the most common cause of ****** outside the box is because the box is dirty, or she has a urinary tract infection. Those infections are common and are easily treated with antibiotics.
Left untreated, it can result in kidney failure and incontinence.
The reason it makes them go outside the box is because it hurts when they go, so they associate the box with pain.
Once the infection clears up, they use the box again, no problem.

The only definitive way to tell is by a blood test or urinalysis.
If she is ********* outside the litterbox, she could be too big to fit comfortably and is thus not using the box, or does not fit properly to “hit the spot” so to speak. Urinary tract infections, while more common in male cats, are not all that uncommon in female cats, as is also a likely culprit for inappropriate *********.
If you have not changed anything about her litter box (placement, type of litter, box itself) and if things in your household are “normal” (ie. no unusual stressful situations), your best course of action is to visit the vet. Litterbox problems can bely a whole host of kitty health problems.
A diabetic cat usually will drink more, urinate more frequently, and experience weight loss as they cannot process the food that they are eating.
Please take her to the vet and get a proper diagnosis.

Cats do get diabetes and it is becoming very common. Click on my name and read my profile
The first symptoms are excessive drinking and ****** followed by an insatiable appetitte an loss of weight
You can get some ketodiastic reagent strips to check the urine to see if sugar is spilling in which is an indication of diabetes. The other part of the strip tests for ketones which require immediate vet attention.

do NOT email Ken, he is not a diabetic cat expert, he just likes to think he is.
Honestly, your cat could be ****** on the floor for any number of reasons, including urinary tract issues, kidney issues, diabetes, psychological issues, etc.
Your best bet is to have a thorough vet check done and get the vet to do cytocentisis urine collection and culture it for bacteria. Also make sure you regularly clean the litter box once per day.

We knew something was wrong with Snickers because when she peed all the time and when she did it was in really big amounts, like the most *** I have ever seen. And she started to drink tons of water all the time.
